De stad met bijna 180.000 inwoners nabij de grens met Duitsland heeft sinds kort de langste 3D-geprinte fietsbrug tot nu toe. In september werd het 29-meterlange hoogtechnologische bouwwerk in de wijk Dukenburg officieel in gebruik genomen.
Met zijn ronde vormen past de innovatieve brug goed in de omgeving van het park De Geologenstrook. “Het ontwerp is geïnspireerd op een vorm die in de natuur ontstaat omdat het op de meest efficiënte manier een bepaalde kracht op moet vangen”, legt ontwerper Michiel van der Kley uit. Om zoiets te implementeren in 3D-geprint beton was tot nu toe onmogelijk. Door onderzoekers van de TU Eindhoven bij het project te betrekken, zijn de Nederlanders ’s werelds eersten die hierin slaagden.
De brug werd in de betondrukkerij van Saint Gobain Weber Beamix laag voor laag gedrukt en gerealiseerd door bouwconcern BAM. De betrokken partijen hebben een voorbeeld gesteld met de brug die tientallen jaren mee moet gaan.
“Deze 3D-productietechnologie maakt materiaalbesparingen mogelijk tot wel vijftig procent”, benadrukt Bas Huysmans, CEO van Saint Gobain Weber Benelux. 3D-printen wordt zo een reële optie voor snellere, duurzamere en kosteneffectievere infrastructuurbouw. Ook Theo Salet, hoogleraar Concrete Structures aan de TU Eindhoven, ziet serieuze groeimogelijkheden voor betonprinten: “We hebben minder grondstoffen nodig en kunnen de snelheid van bouwen drastisch opvoeren. In de toekomst willen we beton duurzamer maken en ook hergebruiken. Er valt dus nog veel te winnen in de keten.”
